The Butterfly Catchers by beastofoblivion The Butterfly Catchers by beastofoblivion
Older piece from Fall 2005, and one of my favorites.

For those of you who are still going off the old Lock writing/images I used to post, please forget about all of that. They're different now.
If you want to know, a rough draft of sorts is up on my LJ (liquidoblivion).

There may have been some writing to this, but I've long since forgotten it.

I'll upload a larger version later, I don't have my flash drive with me at the moment.

Artwork (c) Allison Theus
Lockjaws (c)/TM Allison Theus

Why upload old work? People are yelling for Locks so here you go. Not to mention, I need to break up the wraith posts.

This and few old works too remind me art-style of earlier Quinton Hoover.

Wow! I like the way you drew the butterflies a lot. And the way that he floats, as he draws in the birdlike butterflies with his long hands is amazing. But I have to say, my favourite part of this piece is the orb in which he stores the butterflies. It's shininess and how it's on a chain is great.

I love how you can look at artwork and see into the artist's imagination. I wish people would ask to make a movie with you, or at least a graphic novel!

Yea - if only it'd come out when I was working on it, two years ago. Shit, if only I'd known about the band two years ago.

holy crap! I looked at this and I thought I commented, but apparently I'm dumb and I didn't. I don't know what these critters are (if they're from some book or somesuch) but the piece itself is absolutely breathtaking. Well done!

I've always loved the shiny/chrome like 'color' of Lockjaws. Your explinations of their race always make them seem more belivable and lifelike...

I was wondering, when did you come up with the idea for Lockjaws? They are so complex, that it seems like a while ago...

I came up with them back in seventh grade, so, eleven years ago almost. And they've been a work in progress since - I only just near-finalized them two weeks back. Unfortunately people and the internets are stupid, so it's not likely I'll ever being posting their final versions and information publicly.

11 years...wow! My beasties, the Akire`, are fairly new, and I am writing an anylysis of thier species. They are not nearly as complex as Lockjaws...
It's so unfortunate that you can't post your final versions and imformation...but, then again, people and the internet ARE stupid!

You said on the Moonshine piece that people should tell you if they would like to see more creatures/beasties from the Chaos relm. I certainly would! It's always amazing to me how you can come up with such complex creatures; and that they all make sence.

i love it, do you use color pencils, markers, or ink wash to apply your color?

This is so... so... AMAZING! :jawdrop:

The colors, the muscle definition, the "butterfly" markings on the black creatures, the warm-colored background (which contrasts greatly with the main characters), the expression on the foreground creature's face (somewhat mischiveous... =D)...

I'm speechless. For real (and oh my, I seem to be quite verbose for being "speechless" ;P). This is wonderful and completely deserving of a fav. Perhaps you've changed styles by now, but if this is your old style... then I have to check the new pieces :XD:

Odd -- Only a few hours after viewing this piece, it was brought back into my mind when I heard "The Butterfly Collector" by The Jam, which I had never heard before then. Slight serendipity, I'd say.

Ah, beautiful. The colors are just gorgeous! I really like the container that they put the butterflies in. They don't hurt the butterflies do they? Like pin them to a wall or something? I hate that.

This is, by far, one of my favorites of your finished Lockjaw work. The forced perspective brings it right up into our faces, and the liquid-black substance of the Lockjaw body, as well as the multicolored fluttering critters, keeps us detail freaks focused and moving around the whole image. Superb work, oldie or not. :D
