Moonshine by beastofoblivion Moonshine by beastofoblivion
A Terrian, a species also known as 'moonshine' or 'moonshadows.' One of the denizens of the Chaos Realm, this particular creature is normally a deep gray or blue-green with a lighter, tan underbelly. They also sport strange, writhing black tattoos across their backs and wings. Under the glow of a mysterious pulsing star, the creatures become a brilliant silvery-white and their skins are enveloped in ethereal flame (they glow like the moon, DUH), whereupon they are consumed by it shortly after and then are reborn. There are no real genders and they do not reproduce, though all members of this species lays eggs in a normal cycle attuned to the star. Though empty and abandond they will be reborn into the ones that survive and the cycle will begin again. They also react heavily to the presence of the Lochiovonychus (Lockjaws), with their skin shimmering and glittering brighter as the Ruler's presence grows near. Should they touch one it is believed that they will change and be reborn without the guidance of the star.

Notes:
1.) About the Chaos Realm:
The Chaos Realm is somewhat of a parallel dimension/universe to reality where the Empires exist, and its entire existance is a byproduct of the existance of the Lochiovonychus. It is a fantasy world, a place where anything and everything is possible and where nothing usually makes sense. It feeds off the creative energies of reality and molds them randomly into impossible forms, creating creatures and situations that could never exist anywhere else. It is a place of happy good things (like unicorns, dragons, etc.) and fairly evil and disgusting things (hellbeasts, monsters, you get the idea). For reference, ordinarily there is only one of any creature that exists. There are few creatures that actually have enough of a population to be considered a species, or a race. If you're born into Chaos, you're usually one of a kind.
Generally it is known that those in reality cannot cross over into Chaos and those in Chaos cannot survive reality, but it is certainly possible. The best example of this would be the Vulfs, a strange species of wolf hybrids that showed up out of nowhere and now populate Empire Eutharious. No Vulf is the same physically or mentally. Another good example are Hellbeast Intrusions, whereupon the form of some nightmarish creature in Chaos is possessed by a demonic spirit and catapulted into reality to antagonize the Lockjaws by destroying their work and delaying their progress. Yahndrall's Shadowraith is very adept at posessing alternate forms and altering them to its own aesthetic, but unlike normal demons it cannot be sent back to Hell so easily and is pretty much stuck with the unfortunate Lockjaw until he passes on.
In this dimension/universe Time also doesn't really matter. Things simply exist or don't exist, and either can happen to anything at any moment. Days can go on for minutes or years, same with nights and seasons if they even occur. Everything has its own random pattern or cycle. However, there is one constant in this world and that is a second pulsating star that is believed to have a connection to Tsaritartion (the Lockjaw home world). It could be Tsaritartion's sun, it could be the planet itself, no one knows. But all creatures generally recognize that 'the Dark' come from there, and that their existance is pretty much powered by whatever that thing is up in the sky.

2.) Where did the Chaos Realm come from?
I've had this little parallel dimension probably since freshman year in highschool. Most of the dragons and fantasy creatures I drew back then came from there, and many of the stories I wrote took place there since they obviously didn't fit into the Empire setup. This was also back before I had internet and whatnot so if the name has been used before by you or anyone please don't flip out. I'll get around to giving it a new name now that I'm diving back into it and making it public, but for right now you'll have to be satisfied with my cheesy highschool labeling.

I can't think of any other questions right now, and I should get back to watching Sleepy Hollow and working on my trade. (w00t!)
If you'd like to see some old Chaos Realm work from me give me a shout, I've got 18 sketchbooks sitting here that haven't been seen by anyone but me and a few of my really good friends.

How do you stop the color from smudging the ink? I use Papermate ballpoint pens and I can't ink and then color because the ink get smudged, and I can't color and then ink because it doesn't layer overtop very well.

How can I put this so I don't sound like everyone else?

For a very long time, I have looked at your arwork in awe and amazment, wondering if I will ever be as skilled as you. I have never sat in such awe with any other artist besides you.
Your artwork has been, and always will amaze hundreds of people, but let me explain myself.

About 3 times a week, I sit down at the computar, type in 'Allison Theus' into Google, go onto your various Gallery type sites, and stare.
I don't stare for fun, but to learn. I am one of those strange people, that can learn how to draw, by stareing at artwork.

I have never stared at anyone else's artwork besides yours...as I belive you are the best; I am learning from a master.
I don't expect you to read this, but if you do, please know that you have been, and always will be an inspiration to me...

Woa, this is unexpected - and very cool. I really appreciate that you took the time to say something, and I'm honored that my work has influence you so. It means a lot.

As silly as it might seem, I would also encourage you to stare at other people's work too, and at the life around you - you have great skills and a an even greater potential, and focusing on one person's work alone will hinder more then help you in the long run.
But other then that, keep up the sweet art, I look forwards to seeing more! :D

Now this is something else.

Hello there, Im a friend of Michele and Shelby, and they told me about you.
Indeed, this is a great gallery you have here! You have a wide variety of skills when drawing beasts. I liked this one here best, because this is the best dragon wing Ive seen so far. All the foldings and proportions are perfect!

Keep up the great work! :)

I can say nothing other than I am amazed by your gallery and your mind. Your creatures are incredible to the point that I have no way of converying it in my current state (long day). You have a sense (or a maybe it's just pure talent) for coloring with intensity and detail that I think is often lost in a lot of artists today. I couldn't decide whether to comment here, on your current featured (Chaos jewel?) or your main page. I don't know whether enough people tell you how talented you are or whether you need that kind of support, but I am beyond impressed and I can't wait to show a few people that there are still artists like you to be found.

Wow. The reflecting from the skin, the shading, the intricate muscles in even the tiniest portion of the image.. <3 I've been looking at your work for a while, but yet every time forget to watch you, both your artistic ability and your creations have inspired me to draw; the past week or so I got really frustrated at myself because I managed to convince myself I'll never be good enough to pursue a career in art, but looking at your work, it's taught me every detail counts, and maybe if I used more detail, I could improve at the years move on. Thankyou, for that, Allison!

That... is bodacious. A Lockjaw Universe kind of phoenix, or a similar idea. I love it!

I also really like the subtle blues and creams/tans that you worked into the striations in the underside of the wings. That's such a subtle color combination - you used it to great effect!

And yes, I want writhing black tattoos when I grow up, too.

I can just imagine this creature in its glowing phase, drawn on dark-toned paper. Soooo dynamic... Ooooooo... You may have more gift art coming. ;-)

Excellent creature design, as always!

Okay this jsut freaks me out.

Like five days before you submitted this, I drew a dragon thingie that looks almost exactly the same. The colors and the markings.. Gawd.. O_O

And the Chaos realm thing! I've had a realm in my head where impossible things like dragons and unicorns live since FORVER. D:

... We must be mindlinked or something. I'm fascinated, in a dread-filled sort of way... I should go sleep.

Oh, and you did the wings spectacularly blah blah..

Five days eh? I've had this guy drawn out and sitting in my book since the summer, so five days is still a bit late.X) And I think everyone's got a fantasy realm where the impossible exists, so that's no surprise.
It would be interesting to see if you could try and draw what I'm working on now. Seriously, I'll think it to you and you should draw it.

Dude I'm totally serious. One of the random monsters in your gallery looks creepily close to something I doodled at the beginning of high school, closer to your age. And I didn't post it up so there's no way you could've seen it.
You should try it, it would be entertaining.

Yea, this one I think: [link]
Could be just the pose and the angle, if I remember correctly mine had multiple heads and was a little more messed up. I'll dig up the doodle in a bit and photobucket it for you, it was back from like 1999 or something.
Granted, it's very much a fact that when you adpot someone else's style as your own your ideas are inevitably influenced by theirs and you end up just repeating or doing variations of what's already been done. Which is why it's good to work towards your own style, which people will recognize easily. And then they'll be all like 'hey that's so-and-so. SWEET!' instead of 'omg theft.'

Anyways yea I've been broadcasting my recent image since yesterday so go for it. XD If you want you can hit me up on MSN later today if I'm on and we can chat.

Yeah, I feel really really really really *a thousand more 'reallys'* really bad about the theft thingie, I'm working on my own style and trying to get into other things besides beasts, like landscapes and animals that already exist, such as dogs.

*looks at message thing* ... You added me to your watchlist? Thats crazyness.

And it would be nice to talk to you on MSN, but you'd only be able to tolerate me for fifteen minutes, because I'm annoying.

The black marbled patterning over the green is so very striking and beautiful, It makes the dragon look even more intriguing. It contrasts well with the coppery-buff of it's body and almost mirror look (reminds me of the insides of clam-shells) of the wing undersides. It looks delicate but deadly, the slender head, neck, legs and tails look great. Love the very toothy grin.

WHOOO hoo lets see some yeah? I love the idea though, plus it must be really fun for you, because you get to make up all sorts of beasties and can use them when ever you want, as long as it pertains (in some way) to your story....ahh so much fun! Nothing like creating another random beast or character XDD

The Moonshadow is gorgeous, and I would love to see a picture of when he is all glowy and white...and possibly dead...*sniffle* I bet they look really stunning!

Fantastic creature and storyline description. I love the black patterning/tattoos over the back and the multi-branching tails. It's like the whole thing is made up of wings since the body itself looks quite small and delicate in comparison. Beautiful! :D
